Just in time for the new year, on 1 January to be exact, 13 exciting weeks of competition – including top-class FEI contests – begin in sunny Florida for all those who have caught up on sleep. Elite brand sponsorship from Hermes and Rolex underlines the importance of this equestrian event, where the US and the world's finest riders are pitted against each other.
The White Turf takes place on the frozen Lake St. Moritz on the first three weekends in February. This prestigious event was launched back in 1907 and is a must in any society calendar. In addition to classic horse races, the rarer skijoring can also be seen.
This competition, reserved for the world's show jumping elite and rising stars under the age of 25, takes place 21 - 23 March. A secondary highlight is the venue itself: there is much to see, discover and shop in and around the historic Grand Palais.
2 - 6 April, the FEI World Cup finals in show jumping, dressage and vaulting will be held for the first time in Basel. This major equestrian event brings together the best riders in their discipline, all of whom collected the required points needed to enter the finals from over 100 international qualifying competitions.
Between 15 - 18 May, the Royal Windsor Horse Show will take place with Windsor Castle as its majestic backdrop. Aristocratic flair alone is worth the visit. In terms of equestrian sport, there is a great mix of classic international and typically British contests.
The Reno rodeo, much more intimate than some of the larger rodeos in the US, offers a week of action and excitement from 19 - 28 June. The 90-year-old rodeo will open with the arrival in Reno of a five-day cattle drive begun in the Nevada wilderness, where the skills of the ranch horses can clearly be admired.
10 – 13 July, the largest horse fair after Equitana will take place in Offenburg in southern Germany. Shows, new products and a lot of horses can be admired across extensive exhibition grounds. If you can, combine your visit with a weekend trip into the beautiful Black Forest!
For a whole week, 3 - 10 August, the world's top athletes in Icelandic horse sports will meet in Birmenstorf near Zurich. 22 nations are registered and a total of 18 titles are up for grabs. The event is also a must for Icelandic horse breeders. Symposiums and attractive side-programmes are also on offer.
The Global Champions Arabian Tour is the equivalent of the FEI World Cup for fans of the Arabian horse. Almost €20 million in prize money can be won at various venues in Europe and the Middle East. The show in Prague will take place 6 - 7 September.
The finale of the Longines League of Nations will take place 2 - 5 October in the arts and culture metropolis of Barcelona. The concept of this tournament series is that the ten best parkour teams in the world compete against each other. After qualifying tournaments from Abu Dhabi to St. Tropez, the outcome is decided here.
Not exactly the most typical venue for a polo tournament, but all the more interesting for that. The polo elite will gather in the US desert state of Arizona on November 8, 2025. As the noble sponsor suggests, the champagne will be flowing in abundance and there will be a lot more to look at besides great horses.
Held since 1955, the Festhallenturnier is an annual highlight of classic tournament sport. Every sporting generation has met here. It takes place in the centre of Frankfurt, on the grounds of the Frankfurt trade fair, with an interesting programme of side-events, plenty of good food and shops to explore.
